More than any time before, this month has really got me thinking about running. Much of that was down to our recent Running fitness training day, where, for the first time, I came face-to-face with a group of readers who’d descended on Champneys Health Spa in Leicestershire for the first of what we hope will become a regular event.
If anyone asks me who I think our reader is, I’m careful to answer in vagaries, not wishing to alienate any particular age group, sex, ability, etc. But, if our training day proved anything, it’s that it’s impossible to classify who exactly our reader is. Yes, you can make generalisations, but in fact our runners on that day spanned quality club athletes to people who’d only put their running shoes on for the first time four months ago.
It was refreshing to listen to the enthusiasm which many of these individuals talked about their passion for the sport. All were there to learn more and improve: something that I’ve long since stopped believing in. While they were there to find new techniques and training tools, they were also there to share their experiences with other like-minded individuals. It was a rewarding experience and one that saw me attack my running with renewed enthusiasm.
